A SLICE of Dunfermline's education history will soon be reduced to rubble with demolition work well under way at Pitcorthie Primary School.
The popular school was earmarked for closure last year and despite a long and well-supported campaign by parents, it closed its doors for good in July.
Pitcorthie was one of three West Fife primary schools shut by Fife Council, the others being Crombie and Wellwood. The decision to shut all three schools was backed by Scottish Ministers.
The Press told you earlier this year that parents were “still in the dark” as to what the future held for the site, although they wanted Fife Council to consider the pupils when making a decision.
However, despite demolition work starting on site, Fife Council remained tight-lipped on their plans.
Michael McArdle, lead professional, Fife Council property services, said, “The demolition of Pitcorthie Primary School is under way and is expected to be completed by December 2015.”
Asked for an update on the future of Wellwood, Mr McArdle said, “The former Wellwood Primary School was advertised for sale and following a closing date earlier this year we are dealing with the offers received.”
