A SECOND World War tale of drama helped create memories and prepare Cairneyhill Primary School pupils for their next adventure.
The Primary 7 class raised cash with a production from the days of the Blitz that will give them something to remember ahead of their move to high school.
Teacher Marie Graham said: “It was Betty’s Wartime Scrapbook, a story about an old lady moving out of her house and the removal men find an old scrapbook that she kept during the Second World War.
“It jumps back to scenes from when she was young, including evacuations and air raids, and the story was adapted by the children to give it a Scottish theme.
“There was one big performance in the evening for their parents and the local community and it went really well.
“They were very impressed with the story and the acting skills.”
She added: “Putting on productions develops teamwork as every single pupil was involved in production, from the scripts and props to the costumes and performing.
“It helps them become more confident individuals and it was part of an enterprise project so they also sold tickets, produced posters and sold the kind of hard-boiled sweeties you got in that era.”
The pupils’ entrepreneurial spirit wasn’t finished there and they raised more money with an Easter Fair last week.
Mrs Graham said: “They’ve been making different crafts, including cards, pom poms, bookmarks, glass jars with tea lights, and there was also stalls and a raffle they had organised.
“The money they’re raising will go towards leavers hoodies for the P7s which will have the school badge and their names on the back.
“They’ll be able to wear them and remember their time at Cairneyhill.”
