A DUNFERMLINE family were left astonished when their pet ferret Chewbacca was found 10 miles away in Burntisland after he went missing for 17 days.
Chewie escaped from his owners’ back garden over the fence late at night when he was out playing with his two brothers, Luke and Han.
Owner Nikki D’Amara told the Press: “When my husband received a phone call to say Chewie had been found we thought they were making it up!
He’s lost a lot of weight but has no battle scars, who know’s where he’s been!”
The family contacted rescue centres across Fife, Dundee and Edinburgh to search for the beloved pet by microchip and had given up hope when they received the call Chewie had made it all the way from Dunfermline to Burntisland.
The Star Wars-themed ferret is always up to mischief says Nikki. She added: “Chewie is the biggest and meanest out of the three of his brothers.
“He’s very curious, exploring and going where he’s not allowed. We’ve found him numerous times escaping to our neighbours’ garden – he seems to love playing there.”
At first they thought Chewie had escaped to their neighbours’ again after he was spotted two days later in the local area but as time went on, the family thought they wouldn’t see him again.
Against the odds the Force seems to be with Chewbacca.
