A FUNDRAISER to help a West Fife hedgehog charity is to take place this weekend.

The event, in Rosyth Bowling Club, has been organised by Nadia Al-Dujaili who runs the Forth Hedgehog Hospital from her Rosyth home.

Taking place as part of National Hedgehog Awareness Week, money raised from the day will be used to help fund the care of the 40-plus spiky creatures currently under Nadia's care.

"I want to get the message out to people about how they can help hedgehogs and what is being done," she said.

"At the moment, I have got 42 hedgehogs. I am licensed for 60 but I am not at that. I have not hit busy season yet but it is starting to kick off now.

"The hedgehogs are waking up out of hibernation and some are waking up really ill from hibernation. They then have got to go and find food after hibernation and what is when people are finding them our during the day.

"One of the big messages is if someone finds a hedgehog out during the day, it needs help. Don't just dump it back under a bush. It needs help – it is poorly and will most certainly die without help.

"If you see one out during the day, contact your nearest rescue centre or the SSPCA."

Teas, coffees, tombolas and an array of hedgehog goodies will be available at Sunday's fundraiser which is on between 10am and 4pm.
