Seven Dunfermline schoolkids have been stranded in Cologne since Sunday after their flights home were grounded due to the arctic freeze.
The S5/6 Dunfermline High pupils and two teachers, who had gone to Germany on a study trip, face further misery as the harsh weather shows no signs of relenting.
Efforts to make alternative travel plans to get home by ferry were also scuppered due to the high price set by operators.
The group have been staying in a hotel close to the airport and are due to fly out this evening (Wednesday), weather permitting and if Edinburgh airport, which is closed until at least 6pm, re-opens.
John Coull, Garvock Hill, Dunfermline, who has been in contact with the stranded group, said, "Their flight has been cancelled every day so far. Their flight today (Wednesday) looks like it will be cancelled as Edinburgh Airport is closed again.
"They have looked at getting a train to a ferry port and a ferry to Rosyth but the operators want £300 per person and won't drop their price." Fife Council area education officer Donna Manson said, "We can confirm that seven S5/6 pupils and two members of staff from Dunfermline High School are currently in Cologne.
"The group had gone out there on a study trip and because of the severe weather were unable to get home but we are doing everything we can to ensure they return safely as soon as possible.
"The member of staff in charge of the trip has been keeping parents and families up to date and the group have been staying in a hotel close to the airport.
"They are due to fly out this evening (Wednesday), weather permitting and if Edinburgh airport re-opens, but we are monitoring the situation and will be able to extend their stay at the hotel if the flight tonight is cancelled."
