A SECOND CCTV van will be operation at Halbeath level crossing tomorrow (Thursday) after a spate of recent offences by motorists.
In the last three months police have recorded eight offences at the Halbeath level crossing on Kingseat Road.
The new van will be launched at an initiative taking place at Halbeath level crossing on Thursday to raise awareness of the dangers posed by misusing level crossings.
The event is being run by the British Transport Police, Network Rail and representatives from Young Scot.
Mark Henderson, community safety manager for Network Rail in Scotland, said, "Level crossing misuse remains the single biggest risk to safety on the railway.
"We are comitted to reducing misuse at our crossings as much as possible to protect both rail and road users.
"The CCTV vans have proven to be an invaluable tool in helping to detect and deter misuse of crossings and we will continue to work closely with the British Transport Police to target those who fail to observe the rules at level crossings."
The new measures come as part of a Scotland-wide operation aimed at reducing the number of motoring offences.
