ABERDOUR'S shinty stars celebrated an impressive year on and off the field with its annual awards night and ceilidh recently.
During a memorable 2014, the senior men’s team picked up their first piece of silverware by roaring back from two goals down to beat Strachur 3-2 and win the South of Scotland Plate final and reached the semi-final of the prestigious national Balliemore Cup tournament.
There were individual honours for members of the senior squad as Angus Thorburn and Cameron McCue were selected to represent the South of Scotland at under-21 level in their annual clash with the North, where they won 3-1 with Angus Thorburn scoring, while Craig Grant travelled to Ireland recently representing Scotland at the University International where they won 19-15.
The second team also enjoyed success by reaching the Bullough Plate final before losing out to Glenorchy in what was a boost for the club’s developing youth, while the ladies team climbed the league table to finish in third place, just two points from the top.
The Ladies in the club also enjoyed a wealth on honours, with Katy Smith, Vicky Henderson, Niamh Donelly, Katie Booth and Lisa Norman representing the Senior South Team (pictured) who won 5-3 against the North. Norman captained the side and netted a hat-trick Lisa to bring the team ahead from 3-1 down with Smith was awarded Player of the match.
All five players also represented the women’s Scotland team against County Down in the Annual Country vs County Challenge cup and helped the Scots to a 14-9 victory.
In the under-18 South team Taryn Neilson, Rosie Mulligan, Lily Mitchell and Isla Thorburn were represented with Mulligan being awarded Player of the match, while Niamh Donnelly was selected as the Women’s Camanachd Association National Division player of the year.
