THE Dunfermline High School 11-Plusers Reunion saw people flocking to the city from all over the UK and Europe on Saturday.

The reunion marked 40 years since the last pupils who went to DHS after passing the 11-Plus exam left the school and the organisers managed to persuade 85 former pupils to take part.

The day involved a guided tour of the new high school building on Saturday afternoon and a dinner at Garvock House Hotel in the evening.

People came from as far afield as the south of France for the reunion and the new school was certainly an eye-opener for them.

Dunfermline High rector, Brian Blanchflower, conducted the tour of the new building, which opened last year, and he explained that being in the year below the 11-Plusers, he graphically knew the differences that they saw between the accommodation of 1973 and 2013!

At the evening event the organisers had managed to find a number of former teachers of the 1967-73 period and they were guests at the evening event at the Garvock.

Saturday was the result of more than a year’s work by the small organising committee and two of them, Janet Torley and Adrienne Borrows, were delighted with the the way things went.

“It took a lot of hard work from a lot of people to piece it all together but it was a really successful day and to see so many people renewing friendships made it all worthwhile,” commented Janet.

Adrienne said that they had received a lot of support from many people and she agreed with Janet it had been a great day.

“To find 85 of the former 11-Plusers 40 years on was excellent and everyone who came to Dunfermline on Saturday really enjoyed the experience,” she said.

Full colour spread including nine colour photographs from the day will be featured in tomorrow's Dunfermline Press.
