BRUCES from around the world are being invited to send their best wishes to the Bruce Festival.
Famous Bruces from Forsyth (pictured) to Willis to Springsteen to Grobbelaar - are being urged by Dunfermline Delivers to send a goodwill message to mark the landmark year of 2014, 700 years after Robert the Bruce led to the Scots to victory at Bannockburn.
There have been many notables with Bruce as a Christian name - from Lee to Dickinson - while others have it as their surname such as Steve, Fiona, Jack and Ken.
Already, Dunfermline’s best-known Bruce - Big Country founder Bruce Watson - has joined in the fun by sending a light-hearted message saying, “I’m thrilled to bits to have a festival named after me!” Clocking up the greatest number of Bruces gathered together on one website is the ambitious goal of the Dunfermline festival.
Celebrations run from 11th to 13th July with the first day of the festival coinciding King Robert the Bruce’s birthday.
Over 300 people from Australia, New Zealand and Canada as well as from Indiana, Colorado, California and New England in the USA will descend upon the site of the King’s final resting place.
The Earl of Elgin and his son Lord Bruce are bringing togther individuals of the Bruce family from all walks of life in a historic event to mark the magnanimity shown by King Robert in victory.
Dunfermline has been the king’s last resting place since 1329 when his body was carried in six days of journeying across Scotland from his home Cardross.
