CHILDREN at Cairneyhill Primary School had a Burns bash to remember last week to as part of their Scottish celebrations.
The four classes which took part were P1, P2/1, P3/2 and P3, who practised songs, rhymes and poems and learned dances so they could share the experience with their families, who were invited into the school last Tuesday afternoon to take part.
“The pupils had been working on a Scottish theme,” said headteacher Fiona Hall. “They were looking at the Scottish language and traditions around Burns Day. They decided they’d like to invite their families in to share in a Scottish extravaganza.”
The children were also served Irn-Bru and shortbread for a traditional flavour and sang Auld Lang Syne. The two older classes even had their own challenge – to design a haggis.
“It could be anything they wanted but that had to work in teams,” said Mrs Hall. “They shared their ideas and all had a part to play.
“We judged them and picked a winner from each class, and one of the children then made an address to the haggis.
“It was the tradition of Burns Night in a different way and it was lots of fun.”
