POLICE have charged two men in connection with throwing fake eyeballs at Pars midfielder Dean Shiels.
An investigation was launched after the unsavoury incident took place during Athletic's clash with rivals Falkirk on January 2, which saw the items thrown from a section of visiting supporters.
Shiels, who had an operation to remove his right eye in 2006 after a domestic accident when he was a child, was also subjected to sickening taunts throughout the game from some Bairns fans.
The game, which Dunfermline won 2-0, was the first meeting between the sides since Kevin O'Hara and Joe McKee were banned for taunting the Pars midfielder about the loss of his eye during a match in October.
Officers are continuing to investigate the matter but, as a result of their enquiries, the pair aged 20 and 21 were charged under the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act).
They will now be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
Inspector Ian Flynn, from Dunfermline Police Station, said: "This incident was extremely offensive and such behaviour will not be tolerated.
"While two people have now been charged, we are looking to trace others who may have been involved and would ask those with information to contact Dunfermline Police Station via 101 and quote incident number 3022 of the 4th January."
Anyone with further information is asked by police to come forward.
