FIFE Council are asking residents to re-check their new bin collection dates after a 'data error'.

It was announced earlier this month that from Monday, September 17, nearly 60,000 households in West Fife would have a different day they receive recycling and waste collections.

The council have now apologised after an error on their updated calendars which were made available online.

Shaun Kenyon, waste operations manager, Fife Council, said: “Due to a data error, some calendars were not correctly updated when we started tagging landfill bins. I fully apologise to all residents affected for any inconvenience caused, and I am asking people in the West of Fife to please re-check their bin calendar if they downloaded it between 13 and 22 August.

“I would also like to reassure residents that the calendars are now correct, and that we are on-track for the changes to bin pick-ups to start on the 17 September."

The following areas will see changes to their collection days: Dunfermline, Kincardine, Rosyth, Dalgety Bay, Inverkeithing, Kelty, Aberdour and other West Fife villages.

Residents can find out which day their household waste and recycling bins will be collected by entering their postcode here.

Homeowners are being advised to continue to put their bins out as normal until the changeover date.

A decision has also been taken to revise the content of green and grey recycling bins.

Polystyrene, plastic bags & films and plastic wrappers will not be able to go into the green bin, but should go into the blue bin.

Drinks and food cartons will be recycled in the green bin and not the grey bin.
