SAM Steele has announced this morning that she has resigned from her position as a Rosyth councillor.
The SNP politician posted on Facebook that due to 'health issues' and 'family problems', she has taken the decision to stand down from her role.
A by-election will now take place.
Ms Steele was elected during the 2017 Fife Council elections.
She said: "This is difficult to write but needs must.
"As many of you already know, I've recently been having some health issues which are going to require treatment.
"This, alongside some family problems, have resulted in me needing to take stock of things.
"So it is with a very heavy heart that I must announce my resignation from Fife Council SNP group.
"It has been an honour to represent Rosyth, Limekilns, Charlestown, Pattiesmuir and Crombie for the past two years, a very humbling experience.
"There have been many challenges but the positives always outweighed them.
"From being able to help people find suitable housing, getting a ween of drop kerbs to help people maintain their independence out and about, to dealing with many antisocial behaviour cases, fighting against closure of valuable local services, speaking up against school catchment changes, setting up Rosyth School Uniform Bank (which has helped 275 families so far), volunteering at our Community Hub every Saturday, setting up Rosyth Art Project (my talented daughter taking the lead obviously), volunteering at the Community Garden, leading beach cleans, being a foodbank referer, facilitating working group meetings, attending Tenants Association meetings every month, weekly cllr surgeries where only once I had less than four folk (21 in an hour was the most), attending Community Council meetings every month, assisting people navigate the nightmare of Universal Credit, organising public meetings, attending PTA meetings every month, promoting single use plastic-free status in our local schools, etc, every day has been busy.
"Thank you to every single person who has supported me throughout my time as a councillor.
"We have an amazing community and I am very proud to be a Rosyth lass.
"And thank you to the good people of Rosyth and the Villages for electing me and trusting me to do a decent job of representing you.
"I hope I did that."
