DUNFERMLINE Foodbank will move into its new distribution centre next week at the Liberty Centre.
The charity has been using a warehouse in Elgin Street rent-free from Fife Council to store stocks and supplies for the last year but that unit was sold back in July.
The foodbank, which has five branches throughout West Fife, currently uses part of the Liberty Centre at Pitreavie Business Park to meet their Dunfermline clients but have been given even more space to stock their food there too.
The move has been made a reality thanks to the generous support of local businesses including Gray & Adams, Langfield’s, Tupelo Tree and regular foodbank volunteers.
Sandra Beveridge, project manager, said: “We’re taking over quite a big part of the Liberty building which is right next to the Dunfermline bank.
“We’ve also got some additional storage space elsewhere.
“So many people have just been brilliant helping us to move.
“Gray & Adams, who are moving into our previous unit, have lent trucks and manpower and they’ve never put any pressure on us at all.
“Langfield’s – our neighbours – have also been lending forklift trucks and drivers and if that wasn’t enough they have also made us their charity of the year, so every time they get a review they donate £5.
“Florist Tupelo Tree has also let access to space where their business is in the Liberty Centre.
“The community payback team have also worked so hard to move us over and of course our volunteers have been putting in lots of hours.”
The move has come just in time as the foodbank prepares for a busy winter.
“The figures from the Trussell Trust expect a 61 per cent increase in foodbank use in the UK,” Sandra added.
“Christmas is always a busy period but when Furlough ends in October we are expecting a big surge so we are well prepared.”
You will be able to drop your donation off at the new distribution centre from Monday at Liberty Centre, Pitreavie Way, KY11 8QS.
Local collections can be dropped off at all Asda and Tesco stores in West Fife.
