WEST FIFE's construction sector is set for a jobs boost thanks to ambitious plans to help protect Fife's "world-class" heritage for generations to come.
Heritage tendering opportunities, training, and funded apprenticeships are to be made possible through the Inverkeithing Heritage Regeneration project.
The initiative will provide free training to allow individuals, construction industry firms and building professionals – architects and surveyors – to develop or hone their traditional building skills.
Fife has a higher concentration of listed buildings than any other local authority area in Scotland and it's hoped that this investment will lead to more sustainable careers for youngsters in Fife.
Fife Historic Buildings Trust (FHBT) are holding an open virtual breakfast meeting next Thursday (January 28) from 8-8.45am.
The meeting will launch the traditional training and skills development opportunities the five-year project will offer to the construction sector.
FHBT staff will outline future construction opportunities coming up through the project and advise on accessing the funded training in traditional skills.
Fife Council’s employability team will also be on hand to advise on the mechanics of taking on a traditional skills apprentice. There will be time for questions and networking.
This latest event organised by FHBT has been boosted by funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic Environment Scotland and other funding partners.
Councillor Alice McGarry, convener of the South and West Fife area committee, said: “Inverkeithing’s heritage is world-class and for centuries it has been an important centre for international trade.
"The buildings and historic spaces reflect its prosperity and influence.
"This meeting launches the traditional skills training opportunities and funded apprenticeships.
"It reflects Fife’s commitment to the local construction industry, to training young people in vital, sustainable careers, and to heritage-led regeneration.”
The Inverkeithing Heritage Regeneration scheme is delivered by FHBT on behalf of Fife Council.
