WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley made a gaffe on Wednesday evening after congratulating fellow wrestling legend Paul Wight, better known as Big Show, on his move to All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

Tweeting to his 1.9 million followers, Foley wished Wight all the best in his move to the promotion which was confirmed earlier today.

It was an announcement which has left the wrestling world in a state of shock after Big Show's 22-year-long stay with WWE, a rival company to AEW.

However, perhaps more shockingly, Foley made a slight error in his tweet which caused mass hysteria among the wrestling community.

Instead of tagging AEW - which has 585,000 followers - the wrestling legend tagged Cowdenbeath MSP Annabelle Ewing, who has 3,482 followers at the time of writing, and whose constituency includes Rosyth.

At 8.24pm, Foley wrote: "Wishing the very best to my friend @PaulWight on his signing with @aewing4Cbeath.

"I’m guessing the big fella thought he had done all there was to do in @WWE - and that he still had some gas left in the tank."

After Twitter users highlighted the mistake to the Hall of Fame Class of 2013 inductee, Foley followed it up by apologising to Ms Ewing for the "unwanted attention" he felt the tweet may have caused her.

At 8.50pm, he said: "My apologies @aewing4Cbeath for any unwanted attention my last tweet brought you.

"That was my auto correct being far from correct."

The error came about as Ms Ewing's Twitter handle is: @aewing4Cbeath, while the handle for All Elite Wrestling is, simply: @AEW.

Ms Ewing has since been followed on the social media site by scores of wrestling fans.

She has seen the funny side and thanked Foley for welcoming new people to the campaign for Scottish Independence.

What has MSP Annabelle Ewing made of Mick Foley's tweet?

Speaking exclusively to the Press this afternoon, Ms Ewing revealed that she hasn't been able to stop laughing at last night's mishap.

"I was in a Zoom meeting and my mobile started to ping all the time," she recalled.

"I hadn't a clue what was going on.

"I looked at it, and I then e-mailed my election agent - who is quite techie - and asked him why are all these wrestling people on my Twitter page?

"He ignored that as if it was just Annabelle being ditzy or whatever.

"Later on, he realised what I meant! It was very funny.

"My goodness, it appears that there's a huge world of wrestling fans out there.

"My phone kept pinging as the evening went on.

"I actually went to bed early as I was feeling quite tired.

"My colleague, George Adam, the SNP whip, then Tweets to me about this Big Show or something?

"I asked him, 'Who are all these people?' I certainly know now!"

Has Annabelle any experience of watching wrestling?

"As a child, I do remember the wrestling being on TV on a Saturday afternoon.

"Was it Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy back then? I remember that vaguely.

"I had no idea how popular wrestling has become.

"I have to say though, I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Big Show."

How quickly did the Cowdenbeath MSP realise what had caused the mix-up with the Tweet?

"I did scroll back to see how it all happened.

"I did notice the AEW, and the Elite stuff... I use Twitter a bit, but not often.

"I actually thought that it could be a local Twitter user coming to me with something in the constituency that I didn't know about!

"I was just really puzzled and had that look on my face for a good hour.

"Some of the replies and the photographs; I was chortling away to myself and it really perked up my evening.

"My phone still pings every minute.

"I see that Mick Foley has 2 million Twitter followers and this Big Show has around 1 and a half million, so should I be expecting a few more days of this?

"It's been very funny.

"As I said to George, they all seemed to be incredibly lovely folk.

"It seems not to have just made my evening, but a lot of evenings around the world.

"One of the guys from SNP HQ said, 'Who would have thought that #SP21 would involve the link between international company All Elite Wrestling, and Annabelle Ewing, the MSP for Cowdenbeath!

"Hey, I can take the credit for getting the Big Show into the Central Fife Times and Dunfermline Press, right?

"Who else can make that claim?

"We have a group meeting on Monday so I can imagine the comments that are waiting for me."

Is Ms Ewing going to step foot in a wrestling ring in the near future?

"Well, I think that may be some time away!

"I'm certainly going to have a look at this All Elite Wrestling and see what I have been missing.

"Last night was so funny. I can't believe how quickly it grew.

"When he (Mick Foley) apologised to me, I found it so funny because here was this guy - who I didn't know at all - saying sorry to me for creating this pile on of wrestling fans and notifications.

"I'm still laughing.

"If you were to ask people who know me whether I could be the subject of a viral Twitter thing, the very idea of it would sound hilarious to them.

"I'm not one of these die-hard Twitter users. I just retweet things here and there and stay away from all the negative stuff.

"The fact that I'm the centre of a viral story involving international wrestling is just incredible.

"I'm going to be hearing about this for some time to come.

"Maybe I can encourage a few of these people to become converts and friends of Scotland and when we have an Independence vote they could be ready to support us - who knows?"

AEW confirmed the signing of Paul Wight on Wednesday.

Wight has signed a long-term deal with the company.

AEW revealed that Wight will have an extensive role within the promotion, and on top of his return to the ring, he will serve as a commentator on AEW’s newest show, AEW Dark: Elevation.

On the signing, Paul Wight said: "It’s been amazing to watch what AEW has built in just a couple of years.

“AEW Dark is an incredible platform to hone the skills of up-and-coming wrestlers, but I also love that established AEW talent can build out their personalities and showcase themselves in new ways on Dark. It’s no exaggeration when they say that AEW is boundless.”

“Paul Wight is one of the most recognisable and impressive professional athletes in the world,” said Tony Khan, CEO, GM and Head of Creative of AEW.

Founded by Tony Khan, AEW is a new professional wrestling league headlined by Cody & Brandi Rhodes, Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), Chris Jericho, Sting, Hangman Page and Jon Moxley.
