WEST FIFERS have been warned to avoid a post scam.
Dunfermline Central councillor and postie Garry Haldane says the scam claims householders need to stump up cash for items where not enough money has been paid.
Cllr Haldane told the Press: "I have been contacted numerous times over the past few weeks regarding residents receiving notifications from Royal Mail requesting payment for an item that has been underpaid and requires payment.
"This is a scam. This is not from Royal Mail, who do not contact customers by email, text etc requesting payment for any items. This will be the same for other couriers.
"Please ignore these requests as once the scammers have your payment details they will empty your account. If Royal Mail have an item without the correct postage on you will receive notification through the post delivered by your postie. You will then have some options on the notification.
"Ignore notifications via emails or social media etc. If in doubt, ask your postie who will be more than happy to provide you with the correct information."
