VILLAGERS in North Queensferry are to be have their say in the development and delivery of future initiatives in the village.

A charrette to develop an action plan is being formed and will include consultation with local residents, community groups and schools.

A report examined by Fife Council's South and West Fife area committee last week said the initiative would lay out a "shared vision and a deliverable land-use strategy" to shape community decision-making and investment.

"The overarching Local Action Plan will also ensure a coherent approach is taken to the inter-relationship between key sites to better support the social, economic, and physical regeneration needs of the village and its residents," it stated.

"The vision and goals for the place-based NQLAP will be developed by local people. The community will play a key role in establishing a community vision to take the action plan forward and ensure they are at the heart of any design and delivery-making processes.

"Through collaborative, inclusive consultations, participation opportunities will capture local people’s ideas, aspirations and concerns for the future land-use and place-based development within North Queensferry.

"Most importantly, these inputs will be used to influence the development of a realistic and deliverable Local Action Plan as determined by residents."

Consultation – which will include online engagement and, if restrictions allow, drop-in workshops – will take place in the coming weeks and months with a final report drawn up in September.

Committee convener Councillor Alice McGarry said the community would have a "key role to play" in establishing a community vision to take the action plan forward.

"They need to be at the heart of any design and delivery-making processes," she said. "Only through collaborative, inclusive consultations and participation opportunities can we hope to capture a complete picture of local people’s ideas, their aspirations and their concerns for the future development within North Queensferry.

"Most importantly, we’ll use this input to influence a realistic and deliverable Local Action Plan determined for, and by, residents.”

North Queensferry Community Council chairman Iain Mitchell welcomed the proposals, and said he hoped it would bring benefits to the village.

"This is being brought forward in response to concerns from the community council – we fully support the idea and it was helpfully suggested by our ward councillors as being a way to address concerns," he explained.

"The concern is there are so many different agencies that are involved with North Queensferry: Fife Council, UNESCO, the Forth Bridges forum, all have an involvement and aren't really co-ordinated.

"We just want to see that things are managed in a coherent, joined-up way that has the support of the community and echoes the community's priorities and concerns."
