HEARTS have been left broken as a beloved community project in Inverkeithing was destroyed by mindless vandals.
The Tiny Den was targeted over the weekend with hours of dedication from volunteers left either damaged or beyond repair.
It's not the first time the site in Inverkeithing woods has been vandalised but, on this occasion, every part of the Den was hit.
Between 7pm on Saturday and 9am the following morning, yobs wrecked the two Tiny sheds and the bus shelter and bus stop spaces.
One of the sheds was pushed down a hill and is now ruined.
Kieran Hall, devoted both time and effort into creating the space in September with his friends, Holly Welsh and James Brown, and other members of the community, including a retired gentleman called Rab, who had put his talents to good use at the site.
Holly and Kieran were sent pictures of the Den on Sunday morning, and the latter couldn't believe the damage caused when he went to visit the site for himself.
The 21-year-old said: "I was angry and upset.
"I was questioning why anyone would go out of their way to do this. They would have had to put some effort into destroying everything. They must have been doing all the damage through the night.
"We've been trying to wrap our heads around it in the past few days.
"We want to be looking at ways we can prevent this from happening and put in some preventive measures. We don't own the land, though, so we're trying to see what we can do.
"It's amazing to see how this one small project has expanded so much with the involvement of the community.
"We started when the second lockdown hit as we wanted somewhere to hang out – keeping social-distancing in place – and it has really moved on from there with people adding a bus shelter and bus stops and everything like that.
"This isn't the first time it's been targeted – but it is the worst.
"They've even pushed a shed down a cliff after removing it from the foundations. It's crazy – I don't get why anyone would do this.
"They've put so much effort in. It's heavy wood and thick six-inch nails, so there's no way they haven't got hurt doing it, either.
"Why put yourself through all of this? It's so bizarre to me."
