A SCURRY of red squirrels have given their sign of approval to new safety measures in Saline and Steelend to help keep them safe.
The elusive and loveable reds in the area have had their chances of survival boosted by kind-hearted villagers.
Members of the Saline & District Heritage Society and the Saline Environmental Group came together to source and put up signs to give their furry friends one less thing to worry about and are looking to nurture the growth of the red squirrel population that has sprung up in the village.
This is in spite of them being "quite partial to taking bird-feeders," the groups say.
Six signs have been placed on various roads of the village to remind drivers to watch their speed and be on the lookout for squirrels hopping along the road.
Bridge Street, North Street, West Road and the main road coming into Steelend all have signs in place.
One of the groups' members said: "Signs were put up in response to sightings of red squirrels in the environs of Saline and Steelend, including one that had sadly been run over.
"Keen to keep the local red squirrels safe, the Saline & District Heritage Society took the advice from the Fife Red Squirrel Group and enlisted the help of the Saline Environmental Group to source and place signs around the village.
"A red squirrel even appeared when we were erecting the signs on North Road, who gave a thumbs-up as a sign of its approval."
