ATHLETIC have completed their fourth summer signing after agreeing a deal to sign former Queen of the South midfielder Dan Pybus.

The 23-year-old, who spent two years with the Doonhamers, has penned a one year deal, with the option of a further 12 months, having impressed boss Peter Grant as a trialist.

Pybus, who played in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Civil Service Strollers and in a closed-door match with Airdrieonians on Tuesday, is the second arrival at East End in 48 hours, following the season-long loan signing of Ross Graham from Dundee United on Wednesday.

Nikolay Todorov and Deniz Mehmet have also been snapped up by Grant ahead of the new campaign, which begins next Saturday in the Premier Sports Cup at Partick Thistle, with the East End gaffer stating last week that he had hoped to make "five or six" new additions.

Pybus, who has been capped by England at under-16 and under-17 level, came through the ranks at Sunderland but was released by the Black Cats in January 2017 without making a first team appearance.

He joined Bradford City in March of that year but, after making only a handful of appearances for the Bantams, he left the club in April 2018.

Pybus then joined National League North Blyth Spartans that September, but his stay was short-lived, as he had his registration cancelled in order to join Norwegian side Tønsberg.

He arrived at Queen of the South in July 2019 and went on to play 52 times for the Dumfries club, playing six times against the Pars, none of which ended in victory for his side.

We will have more on this story, and an interview with Pybus, in next week's Press Sport.
