KELTY HEARTS boss Kevin Thomson insist his team will not take any result for granted despite a flying start to the season.
The New Central Park side are preparing to return to action tomorrow (Friday) evening in what Thomson described as a "massive" match against Edinburgh City, who are only outside the promotion play-off places on goal difference, following the international break.
Since winning promotion to the SPFL for the first time in May, Kelty are yet to taste defeat in League Two, with their victory over Annan Athletic last time out maintaining their four-point advantage over second-placed Stirling Albion at the summit.
They've won all but two of their nine matches played so far and, on the road, they've scored 12 goals and conceded four in just a quartet of games.
Thomson, who took his first steps into management in the summer after leaving his post within Rangers' youth academy to succeed Barry Ferguson, has been thrilled with his players but believes October will be a pivotal month.
"I'm delighted but we need to keep on winning games of football," he told Press Sport.
"We need to keep on putting a team on the pitch that's capable of winning. We've got a massive game coming up against Edinburgh City and the wee break, for us, is probably not really what we wanted at this time. I think the last break (in September), when we had COVID and loads of injuries, we probably wanted it.
"I still think Edinburgh City will be right up there so we'll underestimate nobody. We then play in the Scottish Cup (against Buckie Thistle), and then Stirling Albion, who are on a terrific run, so October for us is huge."
Following the Annan game, Thomson was due to have his players in for training last Thursday and Saturday, before returning to their normal schedule ahead of the game at Ainslie Park.
He was hopeful of having defender Kieran Ngwenya, who joined on loan from Aberdeen last month, back in training as the 19-year-old continues to wait to make his debut in maroon.
Defender Ngwenya had been due to start the victory at Albion Rovers on September 18 but was forced out of the side during the warm-up and has been back with his parent club receiving treatment for a groin strain.
One player who has come into the club, and who made his bow against Annan, is Daniel Finlayson, who arrived on a season-long loan from St Mirren.
The 20-year-old Northern Ireland under-21 international defender was part of the youth set-up previously at Rangers, where he worked with Thomson, who commented: "I know Danny really well; I had him at 18s when I was at Rangers.
"He was desperate to play some football and we managed to tie up a loan deal at the last minute. He was a player that I'd already spoken with and I knew everything about him but trying to get deals over the line isn't easy, which you learn when you're a manager. We managed to get it done on the last day and I'm delighted to have him.
"He'll be a big part of the squad and puts a wee bit more competition for other lads within that, and plus he gives us cover with Tam (Thomas O'Ware), Jordon (Forster) and Hoops (Scott Hooper), and obviously big Dougie (Dougie Hill) is out at the moment.
"It gives me as a manager a wee bit more flexibility within the squad, which is obviously what every manager would want."
Kick-off tomorrow evening is at 7.45pm.
