HOW safe is your child's school?
Following a Freedom of Information request, Fife Council have released the results of their 2021 fire risk assessments for West Fife schools.
Safety experts rated risk at the schools as 'trivial', 'tolerable', 'moderate', or 'substantial'.
These labels are based on an assessment which takes into account hazards and at-risk persons and how much protection there is in place.
No Fife schools hold 'substantial' risk but a number received the 'moderate' rating.
In West Fife, this included Crossgates Primary School and North Queensferry Primary School.
The risk assessments are carried out every year for every school in Fife.
Shelagh McLean, head of education and children's services, said: “Every school in Fife complies with regulations and has a fire plan in place.
"We apply the guidance contained in the Scottish Government Practical Fire Safety Guidance. By law, our buildings have to be fitted with ‘appropriate means for giving warning in the event of fire’ (Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006).
"We are completing work to upgrade any fire alarm systems where a moderate risk has been identified and every school has robust systems in place to deal with emergency situations.
"All new-builds have automatic fire detection and sprinkler systems with a link to the emergency services."
All other schools in the area were labelled 'tolerable', none were given the lowest rating of 'trivial'.
