East of Scotland League, Premier Division:

Crossgates Primrose 1 Penicuik 2

CROSSGATES suffered defeat ahead of Sunday's Alex Jack Cup final against Leith Athletic.

Penicuik scored first but a goal from Brian Ritchie levelled the game ahead of half-time but it was the visitors who grabbed a winner in the second half.

Manager Alan Campbell said: “If I’m being honest, it wasn’t the best of games. Neither side played particularly great. I thought 1-1 was very fair at half-time, then we came out really poorly in the second half. We looked shellshocked for a while and give credit to Penicuik, they capitalised on it.”

Primrose are set to play their first cup final since 1995 this Sunday in a match meant originally to be played back in November.

Campbell said: “If you can’t get up for a cup final then you shouldn’t be involved in football. We’ve had a pretty solid season so we have this to look forward to. We have to try and play it like any other game, train properly and we will pick a team we think we can win it. It’ll be a really tough game, we’re under no illusion. It’s what we’re all here for to get that taste of silverware."

East of Scotland League, 1st Division Conference B:

Oakley United 2 Easthouses Lily 1

OAKLEY extended their run to remain top of the league.

A great goal from Stuart Love in a one-on-one with the Lilys goalkeeper put Oakley in front. The equaliser came through an own goal from Finlay Goodlad to see the teams go level. But Love popped up with the winner a few minutes later to finish from a corner.

Kenny said: “It’s brilliant to get the three points in a tough game in front of a great crowd. The game itself wasn’t a great spectacle. There was a lack of quality from both sides. We’re at that stage of the season where we need to grind out results and my players are doing that at the moment which is fantastic to see.”

Oakley face Whitburn this weekend in the League Cup and Kenny said: “Whitburn are top of their league and we’re top of ours so it should be a really good battle. With it being the League Cup we can afford to make changes and try out new things but it won’t stop us from wanting to win this game.”

East of Scotland League Cup Group C:

Rosyth 2 Bo’ness United 3

AFTER a humiliating defeat last week, Rosyth put in a significantly better performance on Saturday.

Two goals from Regan Lumsden either side of half-time wasn’t enough for the side to pick up the win but manager Russell Craig said: “Performance-wise, it was a lot better than the week before. Bo’ness have had a good season, you can see the strength in depth in their squad.”

Craig said players were coming back from injury ahead of the weekend's League Cup clash against St Andrews United, including club captain Gary Leighton and Tam Hampson, who has scored upwards of 30 goals in each of the last few seasons. “We’ve beat them once and drawn with them once this season. It would be great to get not only a performance but a win up there as well.”

East of Scotland League Cup League Cup Group D:

Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts 1 Burntisland Shipyard 1

GREIG SPENCE continued his good form in front of goal, putting his side in front just before half-time of the derby.

Burntisland equalised just after the break and found themselves down to 10 men after 55 minutes.

Swifts boss Grant Brough said: “It was really apparent that this was a League Cup game as we did not have the same intensity that we show during the league fixtures. I thought we had enough chances to win the game but overall a draw was probably a fair result. It was really disappointing performance for me.”

Ahead of Saturday's League Cup game at home to Newburgh on Saturday, Brough said: “I will be looking for the players to step up to the plate on Saturday. We need just a bit more determination and hunger. I’m not a fan of playing all these cup games towards the end of the season. It’s a distraction when we are fighting to retain our status as a Premiership team which remains our priority.”

Saturday's fixtures: East of Scotland League Cup Group C – St Andrews Utd vs Rosyth (2.30pm); Group D – Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts vs Newburgh Juniors (2pm); Group K – Oakley United vs Whitburn (2.30pm). Sunday: Alex Jack Cup final – Leith Athletic vs Crossgates Primrose (New Central Park, Kelty, 2pm).
