A WEST FIFE bowling club has been handed a four-figure funding boost ahead of opening for the new season this weekend.

Dunfermline Northern Bowling Club, located on Dewar Street, has been awarded £3,750 by the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust to enable them to carry out work on the flat roof above its bar and lounge area.

It comes as it prepares to declare its green open for 2022 on Saturday and John Swift, the club's president, said that the cash grant would enable them to continue to "thrive and grow" following COVID-19.

"We're delighted with this award of £3,750," he said.

"It provides the assistance to replace our flat roof, and the opportunity to put in place a maintenance programme to ensure our club continues to thrive and grow in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic.

"Throughout the pandemic, our members have been wonderfully supportive. However, this tough time has highlighted the requirement for the club to engage further with the local community.

"This engagement will include coffee mornings, quiz nights and the reintroduction of bowling taster/coaching sessions for local primary schools."

Fiona Robertson, chair of the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, added: "The trust is pleased to support Dunfermline Northern Bowling Club with an award to help replace their flat roof.

"This award ensures that one of Dunfermline's oldest bowling clubs continues to provide a safe and welcoming environment for bowlers and the local community."

The opening of the green at the club takes place at 2pm on Saturday and, for more information, contact club match secretary Lyle Robertson by emailing lylerobertson10@hotmail.com.
