A PAIR of Pitreavie Primary School girls gained their black belts in karate last week.
The duo, Aimée Russell, 10 and Taylor Docherty Hughes, nine, earned their black belts last Saturday at their Dojo, JKS Scotland in Elgin Industrial Estate.
They began training in the sport through the Active Schools programme when they were in Primary 1.
Aimée started training when she was just four. Her mum, Laura, and dad, Andrew, said they were "really proud of the determination that she has shown".
Laura, from Pitcorthie, told the Press: "Particularly through COVID, they had to train online, which she found quite difficult but she's persevered. She's trained hard and she's been successful in getting her achievements.
"We're really proud and pleased for her."
To celebrate her achievements Aimée was treated to a 'Yes day' by her parents, a full day where she could ask for anything and her parents had to agree. Aimée chose to go fishing.
Taylor also started aged four and mum Lisa and dad Tommy, also from Pitcorthie, are "over the moon" for their daughter.
Lisa said: "She's just chuffed with herself, it's a great little confidence boost for her. Especially since she's only nine. It's a great foundation for her because it teaches her that if you work hard then you will get good results.
"She's been smiling like a Cheshire cat since Saturday, her bubble hasn't burst yet. She's just bouncing around with excitement."
The girls now have two years of training ahead of them before they can gain their next Dan or grade.
