A PHARMACY looks set to be created in Saline Community Centre after plans were given the go-ahead.

Fife Council has agreed to change the use of part of the facility so two rooms in the north of the building can be used for the new business.

The pharmacy will be accessed through the existing front entrance and internal alterations will allow for the community centre to be used outwith its operational hours.

A report by planners said development proposals must demonstrate that they would not lead to a significant detrimental impact on amenities.

"It can be argued that the pharmacy would be a more intensive use than that of the community centre, however, in terms of noise impact, it is unlikely that such a use could increase noise levels at the site significantly," it stated.

"The proposal would have a neutral impact in terms of residential amenity and road safety."

In a supporting statement, pharmacist Lisa Duncan said Fife Council had agreed to a lease in principle for the pharmacy until NHS Fife reach a decision on the award of the contract.

"Following discussions with Fife Council’s Estates, the pharmacy would also be given shared access to some adjacent areas to allow the creation of a waiting/display area, and access to disabled toilet and kitchen facilities," she explained.

"The siting of the proposed pharmacy means that it is self-contained which allows it to be isolated from the rest of the community centre when closed without impacting on the public’s access to the main community centre.

"The proposal would also seek permission for some changes to the existing entrances and the location of certain doors, within the centre, to facilitate the ease with which the centre and the pharmacy can remain securely separate."

Opening hours for the proposed pharmacy would be 9am until 6pm on weekdays and 9am until 1pm on Saturdays.
