PUPILS at Queen Anne High School are to be given a “greater choice” over what they wear to school.
The implementation of a new dress code means that students will now be able to don hoodies and t-shirts to classes, instead of a traditional shirt and tie.
The rector of the Dunfermline school, Ruth McFarlane, hopes that the changes will “reduce barriers” due to a flexible approach which models a working environment.
Youngsters will be gifted branded hoodies, designed by pupils, which they will be allowed to wear over either a shirt and tie, or a plain black, white, or grey t-shirt.
Pupils in S1-S3 are receiving their hoodies this week during PSE sessions, and current S4 and 5s will get their hands on the new gear at their June 2 induction sessions.
P7 pupils progressing into first year will also be given hoodies, with replacements available to purchase online.
They will also be required to wear black shoes, including trainers and black trousers, skirts, or shorts.
On days where students have PE class, they can wear their trainers, shorts and t-shirts, underneath their hoodie to school to avoid the need to change.
The school has also reminded parents and carers that Fife Council can provide £150 clothing grants.
Details on how to apply for funds can be found on their website.
