THE Garvock Community Group will be holding a market this weekend to raise funds for their local park.
Held at the Vine Conference Centre on Saturday from 11am to 2pm, the group will be putting the profits from the event to the regeneration of the park on Scobie Place.
Chair of the group Gavin Fotheringham told the Press: "The market is the second one we'll have done, we did one at Easter and we normally have about 25 stalls so we just charge out the spaces for stall-holders and that is our profit towards fundraising.
"We'll do a tombola ourselves and some kids' activities. Last time, we raised over £1,000 which then went towards the park."
The project, estimated to cost £130,000, will see a much-needed facelift for the park, which is left with only a roundabout and see-saw after its swing set was removed due to them being unsafe for use.
"We've got £130,000 to raise for the park now, last time it was reported it was £80,000 but now they have looked at it with inflation and 50 grand later here we are.
"We were due to get the swings replaced in June but between contractor shortages and material delays, it's now looking to be in October time but at least we will get them replaced."
The group has big plans for the makeover but need to wait until Fife Council have confirmed that the park will be marked to stay under their playpark strategy. Until they have been given the green light, they are unable to apply for larger grants.
This means that Gavin and his team will be continuing to plan events like the market where various stalls will be offering a variety of products such as jewellery, wax and scents, candles, cakes and traybakes, alcohol, papercraft and more.
Design options for the park will also be on display at the market and Gavin is encouraging residents to come along, have their say and voice their concerns.
He continued: "Come along and speak to the community group, give feedback on what's been going on and if you have any input on what is getting done just pass it on so we can see what we can help with."
