A 76-YEAR-OLD Dunfermline man who has repeatedly ignored a lifetime driving ban has been jailed.
For years, Robert Murphy has continued to drive despite being disqualified, resulting in prison terms.
Eight years ago, a sheriff called Murphy’s record for road traffic offences as the worst he had seen.
Since then, the offending has continued.
As a result, Murphy, of Inchkeith Drive, appeared back in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on July 8, in his street, he drove while disqualified and without insurance.
Murphy was jailed for nine months by Sheriff Wylie Robertson.
Back in July 2014, Sheriff Craig McSherry commented on Murphy’s huge list of previous convictions.
On that occasion, the court heard Murphy had driven in defiance of his ban 36 times and Sheriff McSherry told Murphy he had "the worst record I have ever seen".
He added: “Not only have you shown complete contempt for the court but you are also putting others' safety at risk. You just simply don't care."
Murphy continued to offend and was jailed in 2017. He was given early release, was caught driving again in 2018, and jailed again.
