DUNFERMLINE Athletic Ladies maintained their Scottish Women's Football League (SWFL) title challenge with an impressive win over Buchan Ladies United.

Having reached the second round of the Scottish Cup with victory at Drumchapel United, Angie Comrie's team returned to league action at Pitreavie and they hit a magnificent seven against the team directly above them in the table.

The Pars, who are third, reduced the gap between the sides to two points – having played a game more – with a fine 7-2 victory, which takes them to within eight points of leaders East Fife Development.

Alex Davie netted a hat-trick, with Athletic's other goals coming from Tyler Sibbons, Rachel King, Sammi Connell and Jenna Sexton, and Comrie said: "This game was great for the ladies after being beaten 7-0 up at Buchan in May.

"We had a plan and executed it extremely well; the whole team worked for each other.

"I loved watching the ladies play on Sunday. Everyone played their part; the short, sharp passing, the wee triangles, the movement off the ball, was pleasing to the eye.

"We still have to work on a few things but that will come.

"We are proud of that performance. They listen to what we asked them to do, and we got our reward with three points."

The Pars, who have six league fixtures remaining, are back in action today against Westdyke Thistle Ladies. Kick-off at Pitreavie is at 12pm.

Meanwhile,  the team have been drawn to host Bonnyrigg Rose in the second round of the Scottish Cup.

The tie is scheduled for November 6.
