THE FAMILY of a Kincardine dad who has been jailed in Iraq while awaiting extradition to Qatar will be protesting in Edinburgh today (Thursday).

Brian Glendinning was on his way to Qatar to start a new job when he was detained in Iraq.

He had an Interpol red notice against him and had been sentenced in absentia to two years in prison in Qatar.

Brian has since spoken out about the “terrible” conditions he is in as he languishes in a “rat-infested” and overcrowded prison.

Now, six weeks after he was arrested, his family are still fighting for his release and will be protesting outside of the Scottish Parliament in the hope that it gains the attention of the Scottish Government.

Brian's brother, John Glendinning, told the Press: “I’m well aware that the Scottish Government can’t actually intervene or do anything for Brian but if we put pressure on them they can in turn apply pressure to the UK Government to ask why has there been no help and why have they not responded to the letters from our local MP, Douglas Chapman.

“It’s about chapping all the doors that are closed to us.

"If Westminster was in Edinburgh then I’d go to Westminster but this is our channel to get there.”

Brian’s family and their supporters will be demonstrating outside of the parliament at Holyrood from 10.30am today (Thursday).
