AFTER an inspiring weight loss, a Kelty woman is hoping to help others feel as amazing as she does.
Samantha Martin, 50, from Oakfield Court, decided to make a change and start her weight loss journey when her daughter announced she was getting married. Now, after shedding an incredible five stones, she feels 20 years younger.
She told the Press: "I put on weight just before I had my son and I just couldn't lose it, I kept trying and trying. My wee boy has muscular dystrophy so I was always stressed but I was always trying to be healthier but I just couldn't manage it, I would only last until Monday afternoon!
"I decided to go to Slimming World, I was turning 49 and my daughter is getting married this year and I thought I need to do something about my weight. I lost five stone and now I'm a consultant."
The biggest change Samantha says has been in how she feels, and now that she is feeling fitter, it's helped her care for her son, Luke. She can lift him easier and now that she is more confident in herself, she is able to go out on family days.
She continued: "I feel amazing, the difference. I lift my son, because he can't stand or walk, I do a lot of lifting and I was really struggling. I couldn't walk anywhere, I was hardly leaving the house and we had been in isolation for a couple of years with COVID.
"I was just feeling the worst that you could feel and then I went to Slimming World and the people were great, my consultant was great, she was really kind and it just inspired me to lose the weight that I had been trying to loose every Monday for 20 years!"
Samantha has also credited her family, her husband, Steven, little Luke, her two daughters, Georgia and Kelsey, and her other son, Owen, for the incredible help that they've given her throughout her journey, making sure she stays away from those leftovers and helping her out at her group.
"I've had great support from my family – my daughters and my sons have been amazing in supporting me. I like leftovers and my son will give me a wee tap on the hand if I go to eat his!" she laughed.
Hoping to help others reach their goals, Samantha has now begun her own group in Burntisland and she is encouraging anyone who wants to start their own weight loss journey to come along to the Toll Centre in Burntisland at 8am.
She added: "I feel like I'm 20 years younger, I feel like I did in my 30s and I feel inspired by myself. I still can't believe that I managed to lose this weight and I'm staying healthy. I just wish everybody could feel how I feel.
"Just get yourself through the door – that's the bravest thing you can do – just get yourself through the door and we'll help you with the rest."
