A TALENTED West Fife badminton starlet has continued to court success by netting a pair of doubles title successes.

Brooke Stalker, from Dunfermline, maintained her fine recent form at the 2023 Midland Junior Under-19 (2005) competition last month, which was held in Perth, alongside the under-15 (2009) tournament.

The 16-year-old, the niece of late former Scotland international Russell Hogg, a bronze medallist at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, struck gold in both the ladies, and mixed, doubles.

In the former, she partnered once more with Iona Muir, who she secured Badminton Scotland National Championships Under-19 with in December, and won both of their Group A section matches.

That took them into the semi-finals, where they defeated Sophie Barrie and Ella Haime 21-11, 21-10, before getting the better of Katrina Chan and Amy Craig, who they had beaten in the group phase, 21-13, 21-17 in the final.

Brooke also tasted success in the mixed doubles, where she teamed-up with Anthony McGuire, and again won both matches played in Group A, against Lewis Smith and Abigail Barrie, and Daniel Harris and Ella Haime.

In the semi-finals, they defeated Finlay Jack and Sophie Barrie 21-16, 21-15, before winning the final against Josh Taylor and Katie Stewart 21-17, 21-17.

Brooke's victory double comes after her national championship under-19 ladies doubles win, silver and bronze medals won at the Swedish Youth Games, an under-17 tournament, prior to that, and a maiden open senior title at the Babolat Dunfermline Badminton Championships last month, which arrived in the ladies doubles with Jodie Harris.

She said: "I'm delighted to win my first under-19 tournament of the year, without dropping a set.

"I'm hoping to continue this throughout the year."
