THE cycle speedway track in Dunfermline is to get outdoor seating installed for spectators.
A planning application has been submitted to Fife Council for aluminium bleachers to be erected at the racing venue, in the grounds of Queen Anne High School.
The cost is expected to be around £6,500 and it would add seating for up to 60 spectators.
Opened in 2016, the ExxonMobil-sponsored 'Fastbowl' is the home of the Fife Revolutions teams, who play in a league format against clubs from across Britain.
Last November the venue was used for a home international competition for the first time with riders from England, Wales and Ireland heading north to compete with a Scotland team.
If the plans are given the green light a Northampton firm, Audise by Frem Group Limited, will instal the bleachers.
There would be two units, each 4.5 metres wide and with three tiers and guard rails. Each unit is expected to accommodate 26-30 spectators.
Cycle speedway is regarded as an intense sport with short, sharp races – usually four laps of an outdoor track that's between 50 and 90 metres long – and physical contact is "both legal and often necessary!"
Four riders contest a race, usually in pairs from opposing clubs.
