A £200,000 project to replace the astroturf pitch at Dunfermline High School will get underway on Sunday.
The facility will be closed for up to six weeks as a new 3G surface is laid and, in a separate £5,000 deal, there will be extra-time for football at Queen Anne High.
The cash for the new plastic pitch at Dunfermline High – the old one is "no longer fit for purpose" – has been provided by Fife Council in partnership with the UK Government's Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and the Scottish Football Association.
Councillor Linda Erskine, the spokesperson for communities and leisure, said that providing better sporting facilities was "an important priority" for the council.
She said: "The pitch is well used by both the school and local community and is home to Duloch Juniors FC but was no longer fit for purpose."
Craig Park, chairman of Duloch Juniors, added: "Duloch Juniors are delighted that through our partnership with Fife Council, we are able to maximise the use of the facility.
"Having used the premises for 10 years we appreciate the support afforded by community use to allow our club to grow and provide an excellent facility for our young footballers."
The new surface should be ready in late April.
The money to extend the opening hours of the pitches at Queen Anne will come from Pinnacle, who run the school as part of a Private Public Partnership (PPP) with the council.
They have agreed to provide £5,000 every year until the PPP deal – the 25 year agreement was put in place when the new school opened in 2003 – ends in May 2028.
The funding will allow local clubs affordable access to the synthetic and grass pitches at times when Queen Anne is normally closed.
Cllr Erskine said: "I’d also like to thank Pinnacle for their generous offer to provide funding so that we can extend the opening times of our pitches at Queen Anne High School.
"We know there is a shortage of pitches in the area, particularly on Sundays, so this means we’re able to fill that gap.”
