THE quiz kids of St Margaret's Primary School were in top form at the Rotary Club of Dunfermline's qualifying round in the 2023 primary schools quiz competition.
By holding off the challenge of three other Dunfermline primaries in the preliminary heat in Dunfermline High School, St Margaret's young quiz masters – Jessica Bathgate, Jeffrey Tan, Molly Clarke and Elizabeth Wasiak – secured the Rotary Club of Dunfermline trophy and a place in the area finals on April 18 at Levenmouth Academy.
In a very close-fought competition, the winners were tied with McLean Primary School after 10 rounds. Even after a further round of questions they were still tied for the win. They succeeded following a sudden death question to retain the title previously won by St Margaret's in 2019. Commercial finished in third place and Pittencrieff fourth.
Event organiser was Rotarian David Somerville, the question master was Rotarian Blair Morgan. The questions were set by nationally by Rotary.
Overall, 500 schools, supported by nearly 80 Rotary Clubs in District 1010, are expected to compete in this year's event, with the top two teams from each area final advancing to the district final at Aberdeen on Saturday, June 17.
