KIDS in Limekilns will be among the first to benefit after it was announced that Fife Council are getting £3.4 million to refurbish play parks.
The Scottish Government are providing the funds over the next three years and although spending plans are not yet known, the village has apparently been promised a share of the cash.
On his Facebook page, local councillor Brian Goodall said: “After talking to Fife Council’s parks development officer, I’m delighted to say that at least £70,000 will be earmarked for the redevelopment of the Limekilns play park.
“At the Charlestown, Limekilns and Pattiesmuir Community Council meeting, I’ll be asking for community support to help us build a plan to lever even more in funding for this project so we can deliver the best possible play facilities for local children and visitors to our villages.”
The investment is part of a £50m pot for local authorities across Scotland, with money handed out until 2026.
Dunfermline MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville said: "I’m really pleased to receive confirmation that the Scottish Government will be providing Fife Council with more than £3.4m to support their efforts to refurbish local play parks.
“We know that playing outdoors has huge benefits for children and this funding will allow the council to further support local communities.”
Back in September 2021, the council estimated it would cost £30m to maintain and improve their 446 play sites.
As part of a new approach, they said that 146 with "very limited play value" would not be refurbished or repaired and would have equipment removed, with investment focused on maintaining 300 play parks.
However, the following year families in Dunfermline helped save a number of facilities that had been set for closure.
That included play parks in Scobie Place, Daviot Road and North Larches and the hope is that these locations will also benefit from the government funding.
