Two members of the Dunfermline Soroptimist club attended the 'Women of Scotland' lunch in Glasgow last Friday.
The aim this year was to highlight epilepsy, a condition unfortunately not much in focus. One of the main speakers was Katherine Ford, herself with the condition.
In an amazing talk she told us how she had learnt to live with the disability through medical intervention. She is now a successful “ultra-cyclist”, which involves having to cover distances of 125 miles or being on your bike for a minimum of six hours. This is an impressive feat indeed.
Another speaker was Jane Garvey, who presented 'Woman’s Hour' on Radio 4. This programme started not long after the last war and Jane revealed how the programme has changed since then, when instructions to the producers were warned that only easy to grasp material should be discussed so as not to overwhelm the women listeners!
The chairperson of the lunch was BBC Scotland’s Hayley Millar.
