A RUINED church more than 500 years old that's been used as a film location in Outlander is set for £25,000 of repairs.
Fans of the hit TV show have contributed to a big increase in visitors to the West Kirk but the state of the ancient monument poses a "potential risk" and Fife Council will try and make it safe.
Arc Architects Ltd, of Cupar, have been appointed by Fife Council to prepare a package outlining the required repairs to the stone-built church.
They said: "It has seen an increased level of visitors following it being used as a film location in Outlander.
"The areas listed for repair work currently pose a potential risk to any individuals visiting this scheduled monument."
The remains of the original parish church for Culross is north-west of the village, next to Dunimarle Castle, and in the grounds of the category A listed West Kirk churchyard and boundary walls.
Thought to have been built in the early 1500s, it was the official place of worship for Culross until an act of the Scottish Parliament in 1633 gave the title to the Abbey Church.
The grounds were still used for burials up until the 19th century but the building itself has no roof and walls have collapsed, leaving piles of stone rubble and vegetation.
A council report said the expected costs are around £25,000.
In Outlander the old ruin has been used as the site of the Benedictine abbey, the Black Kirk.
