ATHLETIC defender Aaron Comrie has expressed his delight after he penned a new deal to stay with the club after a "special season".

The 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract with the League One champions, keeping him at KDM Group East End Park until the summer of 2025.

Comrie, who was signed from St Johnstone in the summer of 2019, was a regular for James McPake on their march to the title, featuring in 42 of Dunfermline's competitive matches.

His deal was due to expire at the end of the month, but he has committed his future to the Pars ahead of their return to the Championship next term.

"I'm delighted to get it done," he said.

"It's been a special season. I've enjoyed every minute of it, and glad to be part of the Championship squad next season.

"It has been a wee while, but it's been agreed for a couple of weeks. With the holiday (the players enjoyed a break in Spain) lasyt week, it has just taken until today to get it signed."

Comrie said that he hadn't received any other offers, and noted the strong relationship he has with his manager.

"As soon as the gaffer said to me that he wanted to extend my deal, I was happy to stay," he continued.

"I genuinely believe that I played some good football and I have enjoyed being part of the squad.

"I have loved it and the gaffer coming in has been brilliant with me. I have a good relationship with him so it is where I want to be.

"That is important and if I go back to the start of the season, I wasn’t sure about what I was going to be doing. I fell out of favour last year in the Championship but the manager made it clear right from the start that he wanted to keep me and that has continued.

"I have enjoyed it."
