A WOMAN is in a critical condition after a crash on the A92.

Emergency services raced to the three-vehicle smash near Lochgelly on Sunday afternoon which saw four people taken to hospital.

The incident happened around 1.45pm near the slip road for the Lochgelly interchange and involved a black Mitsubishi Colt, a silver Suzuki Swift and a red Citroen C4.

The driver of the Suzuki Swift, a 28-year-old woman, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries where her condition is described as critical.

The driver of the Mitsubishi Colt, a 34-year-old woman, and two passengers, two women both aged 32, were taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy as a precaution. No one else was injured.

The road was closed and re-opened around 3.50pm.

Police have issued an appeal for information following the crash.

Road Policing Sergeant Scott Kirkpatrick said: “We are appealing for anyone with information that could assist with our crash investigation to get in touch. In particular, if you have dash-cam footage then please contact us.”

Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1865 of Sunday, 21 May, 2023.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said they were alerted at 1.54pm to reports of a road traffic collision on the A92, southbound before Lochgelly.

"Operations Control mobilised three appliances and specialist resources to the scene, where firefighters supported emergency service partners," they stated. "One casualty was transported to the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

"Crews left at 2.44pm after ensuring the area was made safe."
