A CALL has been made for the return of Dunfermline Civic Week following return of the city's annual Children's Gala Day last month.
Local resident James Boyd, who has twice appeared on Britain's Got Talent, thinks it is time for the event, which traditionally preceded the gala day, to be brought back.
The civic week would see a range of events organised in the week before the Dunfermline Children's Gala and get businesses involved in events including a parade of floats.
James said: "After speaking to my late mum's friend Provost Leishman, I would like to bring back, if supported by the people of Dunfermline, Civic Week and bring back the Floats, Shop Window Competition, Provost Command Performance and a Primary Children's Got Talent Show.
"I am appealing through my local Dunfermline Press to everyone in Dunfermline, if you would like Civic Week floats etc to make a return for Gala 2024?
"Can you let me know via my email: jamesboyd457@gmail.com or contact me on Facebook: James Graham Boyd."
Dunfermline Central Councillor, Provost Jim Leishman, said he would been keen to see if bringing back the civic week was an option.
"If it is possible, I would be all behind it," he said. "We would have to check what was involved but if it brings people into the town centre, it would be great. It would maybe have to go to the area committee and we would need to see if we could do it.
"The gala day last week was a great success. It was super to see it back. I am very proud of that day. The sight of 2,300 kids coming along the High Street, you can't buy that."
