Dunfermline Choral Union are preparing to embark on a glittering year of celebratory events to mark their 150th anniversary season.
Formed in 1874, 'the Choral' are one of the foremost and longest established choral groups in Scotland.
The original aim was 'The study and practice of choral music with the view to cultivate and diffuse a taste for classical compositions'. However, 150 years on, things are a little more relaxed and the choir embrace a wide range of musical genres in their Christmas, Spring and Summer concerts.
Highlights from this year include a sell-out performance of Sir Karl Jenkin's 'The Armed Man' and 'Magnificat' by John Rutter, and a special performance at St Fillan's Church in Aberdour as part of the church's 900th anniversary.
To kick off this sesquicentennial season, DCU are hosting a Come and Sing! event at The Vine in Dunfermline on Saturday August 12.
This relaxed and friendly day will be spent rehearsing a programme of songs from the musicals and well-loved opera choruses under the guidance of inspirational and renowned Musical Director Mandy Miller.
The finale will be a short informal concert for friends and family in the evening. This event is open to everyone and everyone is welcome. me experience of sight reading music would be helpful but not essential and you don't have to have sung in a choir before.
If you'd like a fun day out meeting new people and enjoying the buzz of being part of a large choir then, more information and tickets are available from the Dunfermline Choral Union website.
