THE volunteers who care for Dunfermline's iconic peacocks have received a helping hand to help them continue their work.

Staff from Amey recently visited the Glen aviary to hand over a £250 donation from the transport infrastructure company's community fund.

This scheme allows workers to nominate local cause that are close to their hearts to receive assistance.

The fund covers all of north east Scotland where Amey operate looking after the trunk road network.

The peacock sanctuary relies on donations and sponsorships to help them maintain the birds’ welfare, individual care and medical treatment.

There are currently 16 peafowl living at the sanctuary and they recently welcomed a new baby in the shape of the tiny Skylar following the birth of little Skout earlier in the year.

Amey’s Community and Communications Manager Jessica Masterton said: “A huge thanks to the Peacocks in Pittencrieff Park for having our staff down to visit their sanctuary in Dunfermline.

“It was wonderful to see how passionate and committed the volunteers are to look after the beautiful birds.

“We were delighted we could make a donation which we hope will help them continue the great work they already do.”
