THE former Johnson's nightclub in Dunfermline is set for a new lease of life after a buyer stepped forward.
Affectionately known as 'Jiggies', the iconic venue on Pilmuir Street closed its doors in 2017 after 37 years and has been lying empty ever since.
The category C listed building was put on the market for offers over £650,000 and a bid accepted in September 2020, but plans to turn it into flats didn't proceed and it came back on the market.
Estate agent Colin Jenkins, of Amazing Results in Dunfermline, confirmed that it's "deal done" with a sale expected to go through by the end of the month.
He said: "It's a lovely looking building and it's pretty cool it's being brought back to life with commercial on the ground floor and a side access to the flats above.
"The views are outstanding as well, right across to the Firth of Forth and the hills beyond. It's pleasing as the building hasn't been in use for a long time."
His firm put 6-8 Pilmuir Street, a three-storey stone built property, on the market for offers over £395,000.
That included the former hotel, Johnson’s nightclub and amusement arcade.
There's already planning permission in place for seven flats on the upper floors, with Fife Council granting consent in September 2021.
Two listed buildings nearby, the former Dunlop factory and the old Carnegie Clinic, have already been turned into swish new apartments.
Colin said: "The entire ground floor of the building could readily be converted into additional flats, subject to planning permission."
The sale includes a secure parking area to the rear of the building.
A three-bedroom maisonette at 10 Pilmuir Street, described as a "superb double upper flat", was originally part of the package but was sold separately.
Colin said it was on for offers over £155,000 and was snapped up within a fortnight by the same buyer.
The property, originally a Women's Institute that dates back to 1912, was funded by the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust to provide a meeting place for young women.
It later became a youth centre and, in 1980, Johnson's nightclub opened on the first and second floors, with amusement arcades on the ground floor.
After four decades as a main fixture in Dunfermline's nightlife, it closed in November 2017 with the owners thanking all their staff and customers and signing off: "We wish you all the funking love in the world."
