A DUNFERMLINE-BASED comic book writer has received a grant to create a comic that captures the history of the city.
Colin Maxwell, 51, has been awarded a Scots Language Publication Grant from the Scottish Book Trust after successfully pitching 'The Dunfermline Story'.
He told the Press: "I moved to Dunfermline about 25 years ago and I didn't really know about its history but I got swept into it because it was on our doorstep.
"I started doing comics about nine years ago, and I did a comic about Robert the Bruce and that was really popular.
"Then a couple of years ago I did a book called the Kirknewton Story for a little village over in West Lothian. They'd gotten lottery money to do a book on the history of their village.
"That got me thinking, it would be nice to take that template and apply it to the place that I live in."
The Dunfermline Story is set to cover just some of the important history of Scotland's newest city, everything from the likes of Malcolm Canmore and Queen Margaret to the recent award of City status.
A big aspect of the book is that it will be written in Scots with an English translation and perhaps even a glossary so that readers can expand their knowledge of the language.
Now that Colin has received funding for this project, he has a lot of big ideas and hopes to get the children of Dunfermline, and other amazing illustrators from the area, involved.
He continued: "It's going to be a bit more than just a comic book because I'm going to have a lot of artists involved. As I did with the Kirknewton comic, I had 23 artists involved in that, each doing one or two.
"It's going to be kind of the same for this comic, it's going to involve 20 to 40 artists maybe.
"So I'd like to put on an exhibition of their work."
As well as that, he would like to create a big drawing for kids to come along and colour in and do visits to the local schools to get the pupils engaged.
Colin said: "I think that there are ways that we can engage people almost through the whole process and even after as well."
