THE latest addition to the Outwith Festival has been announced.

BBC’s Glow Up Winner, Yong-Chin Marika Breslin, who was crowned Britain’s Next Make-up Star last year, is the latest exciting new talent to join the line up for the 2023 event.

The make-up artist will host a masterclass on Friday, September 8 at 7.30pm.

With years of experience in the industry, she will showcase her zeitgeist idea of beauty and skill in using unconventional materials when designing make up.

This event is perfect for anyone looking to learn new techniques and stay up to date with the latest trends.

As well as talking about her career, Yong-Chin share pro MUA tips and demonstrate a leading edge look on a local model.

Yong-Chin won the coveted crown during the third series in 2022 after going up against nine other talented and aspiring make-up artists.

At the Glow Up Studio, her talents were pushed to the limit with creative make-up transformations designed to impress series judges, Val Garland from L’Oreal Paris and Dominic Skinner from MAC Cosmetics as well as guest judges such as globally-renowned photographer and director, Rankin.

The 25-year-old, from Glasgow, won with a series of bold, striking designs that impressed the judges - but in an interview with BBC Scotland, Yong-Chin said that her childhood was all about trying to fit in rather than stand out.

Yong-Chin was born in Glasgow in 1996, the daughter of a Malaysian mother and Scottish father, and was brought up in Partick.

She was interested in make-up from a young age, practising on her sisters and later taking on face-painting jobs.

But Yong-Chin struggled to find a make-up look that suited her own ethnic features and ended up copying looks that were in trend instead.

She told BBC Scotland: "I didn't see make-up being done on hooded eyes and I was always copying these trends that didn't suit my face at all.

"I think it's important for everybody to find a make-up style that suits them and not what they're seeing in campaigns."

Throughout the eight-episode series, Yong-Chin drew on both her Scottish and south-east Asian heritage for inspiration. In episode two, she created a look inspired by the hungry dragon at Chinese New Year, telling the judges how she and her siblings performed Chinese dances as children.

Later in the series, the contestants were tasked with creating a statue that showed how they wanted to be remembered. Yong-chin's striking look was inspired by Scottish Celtic warriors who were "fearless" and "undefeated".

Anna Simpson, the Outwith volunteer from Dunfermline who organised the event said: “We want to make sure Outwith Festival inspires and nurtures all types of creative talent and brings in new audiences every year. We’re very excited that such a big star in the creative make up industry is coming to Dunfermline.”

Outwith Festival is also announcing a call out for people who would like to be Yong-Chin’s model for the evening. To be eligible, applicants must be over the age of 18. More details on how to apply can be found on Outwith's Facebook or Instagram pages.
