I have to admit that when my husband asked me to take our ‘Squirrels’ – aged five – along to see the Hey Duggee The Live Theatre Show I think I was probably a bit more excited than they were!
And this award-winning production, which had a two-day run at the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline last week, certainly did not disappoint.
It was a fun, fast-paced show that took us through lots of my twin girls' favourite songs like the Stick song and Boots and Cats.
The children were given sticker sheets on our way into the theatre so I could award the little ones with their own badges, in line with what was being played out on stage, and what kid doesn’t love a sticker?
We worked our way through the a capella and singing badges that led ultimately to our theatre badge – the wee ones all around were mesmerised from the very first 'Ah Woof'.
So much so that one of my daughters was inconsolable when Duggee left the stage, sobbing all the way home!
It was the first-ever stage adaptation of the hugely popular CBeebies series and has already proved a hit, winning Best Family Show at the 2023 Olivier Awards.
The show – which brings Duggee and friends to life through puppetry and storytelling – lasted about an hour which was just the right length for the children’s attention span.
Our favourite part was the space badge, with lots of twinkling lights and huge inflatable planets that were bounced out into the audience.
My personal preference would have been for more audience participation (but don’t tell anyone I said that) and maybe I’ve just won my first reviewer’s badge.
