A GYM which opened earlier this year at Dunfermline's Linen Quarter development needs more permissions to operate from Fife Council.
Pilmuir Fitness 10 was officially opened in May but Byzantian Developments Limited, the company behind the overhaul of the Grade A listed Pilmuir Works, has now applied for retrospective planning permission to use the space for leisure use.

They had previously understood that use classifications were included as part of the original planning approval for the site but a visit from an enforcement officer revealed that a new application would have to be submitted.
The original plans had included Class 1, shops, Class 2, financial, professional and other services, and Class 10, non-residential institutions such as a crêche, library or religious space.
But a gym would come under Class 11, assembly and leisure use, which also allows for swimming baths and dance halls.

As well as change of use permission, Byzantian have also sought listed building consent for external and internal works including alterations to the front of the building and the erection of internal partitions to form a new layout.
Work on the gym was completed 12 weeks ago and it was previously a vacant commercial unit.
Plans to open a gym in the space were announced in late 2020 but the project was hit with delays caused by the pandemic and other factors.
